Qiyan Ong

Nijmegen School of Management

Qiyan Ong is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Nijmegen School of Management at Radboud University. She is also adjunct senior research fellow at the Social Service Research Center at the National University of Singapore.

Qiyan's central research topic is poverty in developed countries. She applies economics and behavioural science to demonstrate how poverty affects the financial, social, housing and labour market outcomes of low-income individuals. Her latest research which documented how indebtedness impeded the cognitive functioning of low-income individuals was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. Through her research, she hopes to highlight the challenges of being in poverty and how policies can be better designed to help people out of poverty traps.
